Auto loan delinquency
Americans owe $1.71 trillion on car loans (NY Fed, 2026-Q2, released 2026-08-11). 5.49% of that is 90 or more days late, against 4.99% a year ago and a 5.60% peak in 26Q1. New delinquencies are running at 3.95% of balances a year. "new delinquencies for auto loans and credit cards remain at elevated levels, a trend we'll continue to monitor," said Joelle Scally, New York Fed.

Credit cards always run higher because balances are small and unsecured; the auto line matters because the car is collateral and the loans are long.
