Ranked explained
Ranked uses a hidden skill rating shown as a progress bar inside your current division. Eight ranks, Bronze to Unreal; the first five have three divisions. Reach Unreal and you get a number instead of a bar. Here is how the bar moves, what resets, and where Ranked exists beyond Battle Royale.
| Rank | Divisions | What it takes |
|---|---|---|
| Bronze | I, II, III | Placement and survival carry you; eliminations barely matter. |
| Silver | I, II, III | Top-25 finishes with a few eliminations move the bar quickly. |
| Gold | I, II, III | Where most regular players land; consistent top-10s needed. |
| Platinum | I, II, III | Eliminations start to weigh more than placement. |
| Diamond | I, II, III | Lobbies play like tournament games; storm surge and endgame rotations. |
| Elite | single | Top few percent; the bar moves slowly and drops on early deaths. |
| Champion | single | Pre-Unreal; mostly competitive players. |
| Unreal | single, numbered | No cap: you are ranked by position (#1 to #10,000+) and cannot fall back out of Unreal that season. |
How the bar moves
Placement
Finishing position against the lobby's average rank is the main input at low ranks; a top-10 in a lobby above your rank gains the most.
Eliminations
Count more the higher you go, and more when the player you eliminate is ranked above you; third-partying a fight at Diamond+ is how players climb.
Early deaths
Dying in the first zone in Elite or Champion costs real progress; Unreal players do not lose rank but their number falls.
Teams
In duos and squads the team is matched by its highest rank and everyone gains or loses together; play with people within a rank of you.
Resets and seasons
Ranks reset at the start of each season (and mini-season): you keep your hidden rating but replay placement matches, which drop you one to two ranks below where you finished and let you climb back fast. Treasure Hunters (Nov 1) resets Battle Royale Ranked; Reload and OG reset on their own calendars. Unreal does not carry over.
Where Ranked exists
- Battle Royale: Build and Zero Build, separate ladders.
- Reload: Build and Zero Build ladders across the rotating maps.
- Fortnite OG: Build and Zero Build, resets with each OG season.
- Ranked Cups: weekly tournaments gated by rank (Platinum+ for most, Champion/Unreal for the top cups) that pay out cosmetics and, for the Grand Royale ladder, qualification. Schedule on the competitive page.
- Rewards: the Ranked Urgent Quests and end-of-season sprays, back blings and the Burn Bright emote colour by the highest rank reached.
Weapon numbers that decide ranked fights: weapon stats and the compare tool.
